Despite what people say, I liked the Six Paths powers. In fact, something about SPSM and the Rinnegan reminded me of the godly aura Pain vs. Naruto had. Even the shitted-on Kaguya fight was more entertaining than watching the Juubito fight. Then the final battle rolled out, took Naruto's powers and Sasuke's sense, and ruined everything again.
When we saw pain vs Naruto there was a lot of backstory there. Nagato was trained by Jiraya, who was Naruto’s master as well. He had the legendary rinnegan and had already fought and defeated Jiraya, Kakashi etc. who were also well established ninja.
